Wild for KidSport
2019-01-11Sport PEI is very pleased to partner with the Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild hockey team to raise funds for its charity KidSport PEI.
From January 10 to February 11, minor hockey teams across the province are encouraged to raise funds for KidSport and the team that raises the most will have the members of the Wild attend their practice.
The Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild play in the NB-PEI Major Midget hockey league. They current sit in second place in the standings with a 21-5 win/loss record. The Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild recently won the Monctonian and were the first team from Atlantic Canada to qualify for the quarterfinals of the CCM Midget AAA Challenge tournament in Chicoutimi, Quebec.
Owner, Mike Gallant, is excited to have the Wild as part of this fundraising effort. “The guys on our team know how important hockey has been to them and the opportunities they have had along the way. This is our way to give back to kids who want to have the same experiences.”
KidSport PEI helps families who have financial challenges get their kids participating in sport. The biggest demand for funds is for the sport of hockey. On average, KidSport has supported between $40,000 to $65,000 in hockey grants in the past several years. Since 1997, KidSport has provided over $1.7 million in grants for children across PEI in over 20 sports.
“We are very grateful for the support from the Kensington Wild and Hockey PEI with this initiative”, said Ryan Innis, President of Sport PEI. “Community grassroots support for KidSport is key to continue our support for Island families.”
Minor hockey teams are asked to register their team at www.kidsportpei.ca. Teams can determine how they would like to raise their funds. Individual donations over $20 can be receipted.
