Gretzky Hour

We are thrilled to announce an exciting new opportunity for our players this season – Gretzky Hour! This initiative is designed to give our young athletes more time on the ice, allowing them to explore, practice, and develop their skills in a free-form environment.

What is Gretzky Hour?

Inspired by Wayne Gretzky’s legendary backyard practices on his Grandma’s pond in Ayr, Ontario, Gretzky Hour is a unique ice time where players can just be themselves. It’s all about the joy of the game—no coaches, no structured drills, just a puck, a stick, and the freedom to try things out.

Think of it as an open gym for hockey—a chance to skate around, practice at your own pace, and get creative on the ice. Not everyone has access to a backyard rink, especially in warmer climates like San Jose, where this year’s 1st-round pick grew up. The Sharks introduced the Gretzky Hour concept there, and we’re excited to bring it to our association!

When and Where?

We’ll be offering Gretzky Hour sessions on  Sunday mornings at 8:50 AM, starting in October after tryouts. ***PLEASE NOTE THERE WILL BE BLACK OUT DATES DUE TO TOURNAMENTS***

Each session will be just $10 per player, payable at the door.

Who Can Participate?

  • Open to all SPRMHA & CMHA players, both male and female.
  • This is for minor hockey players only—no parents, coaches, or adults on the ice.
  • We’ll have supervision to ensure safety, but the ice is all yours!

What Will Be Provided?

  • Pucks
  • Pylons
  • Nets

What Will You Do With Your Hour?

That’s entirely up to you! Whether you want to practice your shots, work on your skating, or just enjoy the freedom of the ice, Gretzky Hour is your time to shine.

We’re excited to see our players take advantage of this incredible opportunity. Help us spread the word by sharing this with your friends and teammates. Let’s make Gretzky Hour a huge success!

See you on the ice!
