STATEMENT ON THE ALLEGATIONS OF RACIAL DISCRIMINATION
2021-12-02The Sherwood Parkdale Rural Minor Hockey Association and the Early Bird Committee send their most heartfelt concerns to Mark Connors, his family, and the hockey community for the recent incident during the Early Bird Tournament. The Association, and the Early Bird Committee, are supporting Hockey PEI in their investigation regarding the alleged use of racial slurs towards Mark Connors, a Halifax goalie, during a game in the tournament. The Association and the Early Bird Committee do not condone this behaviour, and racism will not be tolerated in our game, facilities and society. We will work with Hockey PEI to ensure a zero-tolerance policy is strictly enforced.
Hockey PEI has released the following statement.
On November 24th, Hockey PEI was made aware of a situation regarding allegations of racial discrimination directed toward a member of the Halifax Hawks Minor Hockey Association. Our branch took immediate action by opening an investigation into the grievous matter.
On November 30th, we received additional documentation which has added to this investigation.
Hockey PEI has a zero-tolerance policy on any act of discrimination or hatred within our game or society as a whole and takes these allegations of maltreatment very seriously.
This incident remains under thorough investigation, and we will share our findings at the conclusion of the process. Regards,
Al MacIsaac President, Hockey PEI
Sincerely,
Sherwood Parkdale Rural Minor Hockey
