MEMORANDUM - UNDER-18 MALE OVERAGE POLICY
2022-08-02RE: UNDER-18 OVERAGER POLICY
Hockey PEI’s Board of Directors announced today the discontinuation of its Under-18 Male Overage Player Policy until further notice.
The decision comes after concern around the number of suspension issues coming out of the Under-18 male level of male hockey being linked directly to those holding overage status.
As per the Hockey PEI constitution, it is the responsibility of Hockey PEI’s Board of Directors to set a policy on overage players at the Under-18 level. The policy currently in place has been reviewed along with the accompanied statistics and it has been deemed that it is in the best interest of this male age-level that the Under-18 male overage player option is no longer offered.
As always, there are still opportunities for these members to participate in hockey at the Junior level, which Hockey PEI feels is a more appropriate setting.
Hockey PEI’s main goal remains the safety and well-being of its members. The Board of Directors feel that this change in policy will help work on improving the number of issues seen in the Under-18 division last season.
Hockey PEI continues to review its policies and procedures ahead of the 2022-23 season.
Regards, Hockey PEI Board of Directors
